Ceriagrion a. auranticum

Scientific name: Ceriagrion a. auranticum Fraser, 1922
Family: Coenagrionidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มสีพื้นเขียวส้ม

In dry season, there are few odonates flying around. One of them is Ceriagrion a. auranticum. Among 12 known Ceriagrion species found in Thailand, it is probably the most common species. It's found throughout the country esp. the central part and all the year.

male

It is easy to spot but, for me, hard to catch and photograph. Male has the bright bluish green eyes. Its pterothorax is yellowish green and abdomen is bright red.

young female

Female is similar to the male but duller in color and has black spots in the last two abdominal segments.

old female

In older female, the color is changed to red like the male and the abdominal spots are fade away.
