Heliogomphus selysi

Scientific name: Heliogomphus selysi Fraser, 1925
Family: Gomphidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเสือเซริส

on my hand!

Most gomphid species in Thailand is hard to see except Ictinogomphus decoratus melaenops, the commonest species found in everywhere.

In this month last year, I went to Erawan waterfall and spotted Heliogomphus selysi along the stream. It's very impressed for me that some landed on my hand! and some landed on another's back.

Heliogomphus selysi is rather small species striped with black and yellow. Male has characteristic white caudal appendages. Female is similar to the male. I only saw it when ovipositing.

You can see this species in all parts of Thailand in May-November. early of the rainy season is the best time.
