Scientific name: Pseudagrion rubriceps Selys, 1876
Family: Coenagrionidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มบ่อหน้าส้ม, แมลงปอเข็มหางแต้มหน้าส้ม
adult maleA pond is an interesting place to see damselflies especially the one in genus Pseudagrion. The member of this genus has different face colors; blue, greenish yellow, orange and red. P. rubriceps has orange face.
There are 5 species recorded in Thailand. In my opinion, P. rubriceps is the most beautiful in this genus.
young maleA young male is orange body and changes to blue when it matures. The face and ocular spot are orange in both young and adult. Front of pterothorax is green. The marking on abdominal segment 8-10 is blue.
female
A young female is orange and then green or blue as it ages. The face and ocular spot are also orange. The black marking on S-9 is good sign to seperate it from other species. These markings are triangle or Pacman-like.
You can find this species in a pond or stream all over the country.
