Amphiallagma parvum (Selys, 1876)

Scientific name: Amphiallagma parvum (Selys, 1876)
Family: Coenagrionidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มฟ้าท้องขีดดำ

I had a chance to Namnao national park last month. I found that this place is one of great places for seeing odonata. A total of 38 species is recorded from this place within 2 days. This national park yielded one unidentified Coeliccia (near loogali) and many uncommon species including small blue damselfly.

male

I mean Amphiallagma parvum (Selys, 1876), or previously known as Enallagma parvum Selys, 1876. This is the first time I see this tiny blue damselfly and easily spotted in this place.

Male is blue with black stripe. Abdomen is also blue with dorsally black stripe along S1-10. Female is similar to male but dorsum of pterothorax is green.

female

This damselfly is recorded few times in few places mostly in northern and northeastern area. You can see it in Jan-July.
