Neurothemis tullia

Scientific name: Neurothemis tullia (Drury, 1773)
Family: Libellulidae
Thai name: แมลงปอบ้านใหม่ผู้แต้มขาวเมียลาย, แมลงปอบ้านใหม่กึ่งปีกดำ, แมลงปอบ้านปีกแต้มดำ

In paddy field or lowland pond surrounded with grass, Neurothemis tullia is easy to be spotted because of its color of wings.


young male

Young male is brown with ivory band on middorsum of prothorax to abdominal segment 8. Latersal black line is along the length of abdomen. Almost 1/2 of wing (from base to nodus) is brown. Anal appendages are white. As it ages, the brown body turns to black. Wings is also darken with white spot next to darken area.



female

The body color of young and adult is similar to those in the male. On the wing, from base to nodus is light brown and there are two dark brown spots next to light brown area and wing tip. The area between dark brown spot becomes evidently white as it ages.

You can see this species throughout the country especially Central Thailand all the year.
