Scientific name: Idionyx selysi Fraser, 1926
Family: Corduliidae
Thai name: แมลงปอใหญ่เซลิส
male
I once thought that Idionyx species are found in rainy season, but recently my thought is wrong. I just came back from Chiang Rai and I found, among other odonates, Idionyx selysi there in the hottest month of Thailand. I went to the waterfall in the morning and don't see any Idionyx along the trail. But when I went down, I found this species perching vertically on low twigs with Macromidia genialis (shanensis). It's only 2.30 p.m. Idionyx has a unique flight signature in the way it fluttered, too.

This species is found in 300-900 m.a.s.l. throughout the country in April-August.
