Ceriagrion olivaceum

Scientific name: Ceriagrion olivaceum Laidlaw, 1914
Family: Coenagrionidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มสีพื้นเขียวมะกอก, แมลงปอเข็มเซอร์สีมะกอก

male

Ceriagrion is a genus I fall in love with. Many members in this genus are very hard to find. From my observation, the characteristic of this genus is synthorax without stripes and abdomen often has different color from those of synthorax. The color varies from red, orange, yellow, green and blue (almost forming the rainbow members!). I've tried so hard to see all members of this genus (there are 12 species found in Thailand) but I found few species. C. olivaceum is one of them. (The three species I posted before: C. auranticum, C. chaoi and C. fallax)

female

Male has reddish brown eyes. Synthorax is pale olive green. Abdomen is pale red. Female has brown eyes. Sythorax is pale olive green. Abdomen is pale brown.

I found this species in grassfield near stream or waterfall. It's a widespread species and found all the year but less in the South Thailand.
