Onychargia atrocyana

Scientific name: Onychargia atrocyana Selys, 1865
Family: Coenagrionidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มพุ่มผู้ดำ


Onychargia atrocyana is easily spotted near a pond or forest swamp. Male and female often live in the same area so that you can see both sexes in the same time. This damselfly has kind of short abdomen and some people think it's a small dragonfly.

Young male is black (with navy blue reflection) body striped with yellow and becomes to entirely black as it ages. Abdomen is all black. Caudal appendages are white in the young one and change to black. Female is the same as the young male.

You can find this damselfly all parts of Thailand and all the year.
