Family: Coenagrionidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มสีพื้นจางหางส้ม
male
Ceriagrion is the genus I fall in love with and also the hard-to-identify one. Twelve species are recorded from Thailand and I believe that there are at least 1-2 species waiting to be discovered or named. This genus are colorful; blue, green, yellow, orange, red, brown, or mix of these colors. Ceriagrion praetermissum is the smallest member of this genus in Thailand.
female
C. praetermissum is easy to identify in the field but harder to see. I often see it around the pond especially males. Females live far from the pond or lake except mating period. Male is light brown with red abdomen. Female is entirely brown.
This damselfly is mostly found in central part of Thailand but also found in North, Northeast, East and South. You can see it all the year.
