Rhinocypha iridea

Scientific name: Rhinocypha (Aristocypha) iridea Selys, 1891
Family: Chlorocyphidae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มน้ำตกสั้นผู้ขีด, แมลงปอเข็มหางโป่งแถบฟ้า

The common chlorocyphids in the stream are Rhinocypha fenestrella, R. biforata, R. perforata (limbata) and R. iridea (The scientific name is based on World list of Odonata (Schorr et al.,2009)). There are few waterfalls you don't encounter them. R. iridea is the rarest and also the most beuatiful one in these common 'Big nose'.

Male is black with bright blue stripes in synthorax and blue markings on S2-8. Reddish triangle is on front of synthorax. Three fourth of wings are darken  with reddish bar markings. Female is black with pale stripes on synthorax and abdominal S1-7. Wings are light ochre.

This species is found in mountains and uplands in Tak, Kanchanaburi and Chiang Mai all the year.
