Prodasineura autumnalis

Scientific name: Prodasineura autumnalis (Fraser, 1922)
Family: Protoneuridae
Thai name: แมลงปอเข็มหางเข็มดำ, แมลงปอเข็มเรียวดำ, แมลงปอเข็มดำ

Among recorded 7 species*, Prodasineura autumnalis is the commonest prodasineurid found in Thailand. Most members in this family are orange red and blue but black in this species.

Young male and female is similar: black body with white stripes in synthorax. The young male's appendages are white and turns to black when it ages. Mature male is entirely black.

You can find this species in pond and stream throughout the country and all year.

* This number is not included at least two undescribed species.
